Norfolk Island Pine - The Indoor Christmas Tree -6" Pot

Norfolk Island Pine - The Indoor Christmas Tree -6" Pot

Norfolk Island Pines, Araucaria heterophylla, are native of Norfolk Island (somewhere between New Caledonia and Australia in the South Pacific). Although they may reach a height of 80 feet in their natural habitat, they will maintain a reasonable size when grown in a container, in the home. The beauty and symmetry of the plant, as well as the soft texture of the foliage will make you want to decorate it, and use it for your living Christmas tree.
The Norfolk Island Pine is a great house plant. It prefers full sun or very, bright, indirect light. Water when the soil is on the dry side.
The Norfolk Island Pine also makes an excellent bonsai!

106: All prepared for the holidays :-)

106: All prepared for the holidays :-)

... Both that I celebrate. Yule and Christmas.

The mistletoe and holly are for garnishing around the gold taper candle for Yule. Holly to represent the Holly King and the old year, and mistletoe to represent the Oak King and the new year. And the gold candle to represent the rebirth of the Sun God as the days start to grow longer again. Need to do a little more research and come up with a prayer, but so far, very happy :-) Except that I forgot to clip some holly while I was at my dad's so I had to buy this stuff....

And for Christmas, an itty, bitty, little Norfolk Island Pine to see how my cat reacts to it (if he'll ignore or eat it...) And my Christmas ornament for the year. My brother and I each have a collection of ornaments, one from every year. I don't know if there was really ever any purpose to it other than when we were little, our mom bought us Christmas Ornaments every year and we just never stopped. Well, I decided to put a purpose to it. I'm going to start finding ornaments representative of my year. A few of the recent years I've done that, but not very many. I decided that if I wanted to keep up on this tradition, I should have a reason rather than just "collecting more stuff." So my ornament this year is a yellow hummingbird. First off, I LOVE hummingbirds! Secondly, I was looking for an ornament to represent my spiritual growth this past year. The idea I had in my head was a 5 point star, but those are hard to come by. At one place I did see a redheaded mermaid I liked. But it didn't strike me immediately as "TAKE ME HOME!!!!" So I left her. Next I was off to the nursery/florist/Christmas shop where I got all the plant material. Wandered around there. Glanced at things on the trees, but mostly stuck to the hooks of multiple ornaments of the same design. I was being lazy and didn't wanna study the trees that hard. And then I found the tree with these hummingbirds! They were in pink, green and yellow. I kept wandering around HOPING I'd sill find the mermaid at this place rather than the place I originally saw it. And then I got a memo from The Universe! Duh! The mermaid would be associated with Water! I discovered that I'm an AIR elemental this year! So the yellow hummingbird had "Sue's spiritual growth!" written ALL over it!

And that is the story of that :-) So now I am all set for Yule and Christmas and it's a good thing 'cause I'm spending Yule in Albany.

Mimosa (Acacia dealbata)

Mimosa (Acacia dealbata)

Acacia dealbata (Silver Wattle) is a species of Acacia, native to southeastern Australia in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory.
It is a fast growing evergreen tree or shrub growing up to 30 m tall, typically a pioneer species after fire. The leaves are bipinnate, glaucous blue-green to silvery grey, 1–12 cm (occasionally to 17 cm) long and 1–11 cm broad, with 6–30 pairs of pinnae, each pinna divided into 10–68 pairs of leaflets; the leaflets are 0.7–6 mm long and 0.4–1 mm broad. The flowers are produced in large racemose inflorescences made up of numerous smaller globose bright yellow flowerheads of 13–42 individual flowers. The fruit is a flattened pod 2–11.5 cm long and 6–14 mm broad, containing several seeds. Trees generally do not live longer than 30 to 40 years, after which in the wild they are succeeded by other species where bushfires are excluded.
Acacia dealbata is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in warm temperate regions of the world, and is naturalised in some areas, including southwestern Western Australia, southeastern South Australia, Norfolk Island, the Mediterranean region, and California.
It is the florist's "Mimosa". The flowers are also frequently given to women on International Women's Day.

Murano Glass 200mm "Frogs Lilypads & A Pink Flower" Crystal Ball Glass Sculpture

This lovely sculpture was handcrafted by skilled artisans who worked night and day to refine his skill. Each piece starts with a designated shape carefully formed by the artist. Through hard work and years of experience the artist creates various designs of vibrant colors and textures which engulf the surface each piece. Usually several layers of assorted colors and designs are rendered--overlapping one another. Once the piece nears the end of completion, it is finished with a clear coat of glass to give it an exquisite glimmering shine.

Up-cycled Blue Paint chip Magnet for WWPFG project

I love love Up-cycling things the lid I used for the base is from the icing cups in Cinabuns . we love them and I found myself feeling guilty tossing them in the trash. I colored the base with blue perm. marker , used a star folded from a magazine page (this was gave to me in a swap) then added the paint chip , glued the flowers on with botanical glue , and then used glitter glue to frame it . Added a magnet and date .done! sounds like a lot writing it down but it was actually very easy

Victorian Flower Art

Victorian Flower Art

Pressed Flower Art started about 500 years ago when people started collecting botanical specimens. Initially, specimens were glued on paper with a small index card indicating the plants name, location, and etc… Gradually, specimens were arranged in more artistic ways. And then Pressed Flower Art started…
In the Victorian period, pressed flower art was very fashionable among ladies.
